DISENCHANTED // DISNEY
As a member of the Set Decoration team for Disenchanted, I had the privilege of helping bring the magical world of this Disney sequel to life. Our goal was to create a vibrant, immersive world that honoured the charm of the original film while introducing fresh, creative elements.
Collaboration with the Art Department was key to achieving a cohesive look and feel. From bustling market towns to sleek New York offices, we worked meticulously to ensure every set detail transported viewers straight into our enchanted world.
One of the most rewarding parts of the project was designing finishes for bespoke hand props, furniture, and soft furnishings. This was a true blend of creativity and technical skill across the department. We drew inspiration from previous Disney classics and delved into Art Nouveau motifs, weaving unique design touches into every corner of the film. For instance, one of my favourite moments was reimagining the window design from the opening scene of Enchanted as an appliqué picnic blanket for the closing scene of Disenchanted—a fun little nod to the original film.
To bring these ideas to life, we collaborated closely with our talented team of home economists, prop makers, and Set Dec construction team. Design briefs kept everyone aligned on our shared vision, and cross department meetings helped us stay on track while juggling multiple large-scale sets during the shoot.
Our efficient workflow and an incredible network of suppliers allowed us to create everything from hand-stitched soft props and custom horse carts to bespoke printed elements and exquisitely crafted special pieces. Our buyers scoured high and low for furniture and smalls that embraced our aesthetic, and our in-house scenic and SFX workshops transformed these finds into show-stopping creations.
Working on Disenchanted was a rewarding experience. It was a chance to collaborate with some of the most talented people in the industry, and breathe new life into a beloved Disney world in a fresh and magical way.
